digging up the garden

Hi, my dog digs up the garden, rolls around in the soft earth, rips the weed matting....some have said its because she's bored, ive bought her a couple of toys to chew and theyre good while they bounce around from me throwing them but when im at work shes back to her old tricks. she has the run of the back yard, its quite a good space, i take her for lots of walks, different sorts, been desexed,??? frustrated??

When she has dug a hole put something in it like a balloon

so that it will burst when she gets stuck in to the hole again. I have seen that work...hang a ball from the washing line so it will keep moving ..... put something nasty under the weedmatting....just get creative...

could be the breed

some dogs like the jack russel were bred for rabbit hunting and digging is a natual extension of that but some dogs just enjoy the feeling of digging or the game of re-digging it right after you fill it in (my dog did this haha) try leaving a bit of her poop in the holes, the smell should deter her from making the holes bigger and might deter her enough to stop altogether. (worked for my boy) good luck!

Mine used to dig

Both of my dogs (both females) dug up the lawn and so i would have huge holes everywhere. A vet told me that young females dig because they get nutrients out of the soil. I left them to it and let them dig as much as they wanted without paying it any attention and soon they stopped. They grow out of it. Then i fixed the holes in the lawn and garden.
